Peking, November 12, 1907.
I have received the following telegram from His Majesty's Consul-General at Shanghae, No. 43 of to-day's date:----
Chokiang Railway.
"On the 10th instant a mass meeting of natives of Chekiang was held here with the object of protesting against the loan. At this meeting it is said that subscription of 27,000,000 dollars was promised towards cost of railway. A discussion ensued respecting a suggested boycott of British goods; suggestion was, however, rejected."
At interview with Wai-wu Pu to-day I spoke in sense of your telegram No. 120 of the 11th instant. In reply they stated that another strong Imperial Decree had just been forwarded to the provincial authorities, and they seemed more hopeful that a favourable solution would result..
